A New Year Between Raindrops

by David Paul Summers

A new year has a way of making us pause.

We take stock — not just of what we’ve done, but of who we’ve become. We look back at the roads we’ve traveled, the storms we’ve survived, and the strange, beautiful moments when the clouds parted just long enough for us to catch our breath.

That space — between the storms — is what Walking Between Raindrops was always about.

When I wrote that book, I was not trying to explain life so much as to observe it: how science and faith quietly echo one another, how the human body holds memory, how healing often comes from listening more than forcing.

But a book, by its nature, eventually stops speaking.

A blog is where the conversation continues.

This space will be different from the book. Here, I will share the thoughts that arrive after the ink has dried — the questions that keep returning, the discoveries that still surprise me, and the quiet moments when understanding slips in without announcement.

Sometimes that will be science.

Sometimes it will be spirit.

Often it will be both.

As this new year begins, I find myself thinking about how rarely life moves in straight lines. Progress is usually invisible while it’s happening. Healing almost never looks the way we expect. And yet, when we look back, we can see how every step — even the painful ones — was carrying us somewhere meaningful.

If you’re reading this, you are already walking your own path between raindrops. My hope is that these reflections will offer a little clarity, a little wonder, and maybe a moment of stillness along the way.

Here’s to a year of noticing what usually goes unseen.

Here’s to curiosity, resilience, and the quiet beauty of becoming.

Welcome.
